One of the critical things to consider before applying for a country’s passport is its validity because most people tend to migrate to well-known countries with a better location in the world than their own country. Therefore, we need to check the validity of the Turkmen citizenship. Turkmenistan’s passport is ranked 73rd and is at the same level as countries like Vietnam, Nigeria, Mali, etc. This country’s citizens with a Turkmen passport can travel to only 17 countries in the world without a visa, but they need to obtain a visa to travel to 141 countries. The methods of obtaining a Turkmen citizenship

The applicants can obtain a Turkmen citizenship through any of the usual immigration means, including work, investment, marriage, and so on. However, a person can apply for a residence permit and a citizenship in Turkmenistan if one meets all its conditions. We review these methods in the following.

Obtaining Turkmen citizenship by work

Foreigners must first obtain a work permit to work in Turkmenistan. A person must be invited by an employer to work in Turkmenistan to obtain a work permit for foreign citizens. Then, the employer must apply to the Turkmen Immigration Service to obtain a work permit. After the employer applies, the person’s file will be reviewed within 30 days from the application acceptance date. Under certain circumstances, this examination may take up to 45 days. Then, if agreed, a work permit is issued in Turkmenistan for one year. A foreigner who is accepted to work in Turkmenistan must practice one’s professional activity only in the professional field through which one has obtained a work permit. The applicant can extend this work permit after receiving a work permit for one year. The applicants only need to apply for a work permit renewal two months before it expires. The work permit is then re-issued for one year. A person needs to check the unemployment rate of a country to measure one’s chance of getting a job in the future. Turkmenistan had an unemployment rate of 3.34% in 2018. If a person can work in Turkmenistan for five years, one can apply for permanent residence in this country, and after seven years, the applicant can apply for a Turkmen citizenship.

In the first place, it is possible to register a company in Turkmenistan, as in most countries, or to register a company. A person will receive a temporary residence to start a business by registering a company in Turkmenistan. The most common type of company is a limited liability company. Given that Turkmenistan follows the rule of blood, if a child is born in Turkmenistan, one is given Turkmen citizenship and a passport, which is possible under the following conditions.

  • The child’s parents are citizens of Turkmenistan, and it does not matter where the child was born.
  • Only one of the child’s parents is a citizen of Turkmenistan.

Obtaining a Turkmen citizenship by asylum

Asylum is one way of migration that is not recommended because it is the most dangerous migration way. A refugee is a person who, for political, social, religious, and other reasons, cannot live, and one’s life is in danger in one’s country. Therefore the person is forced to seek refuge in other countries to continue living. So this person will ask other countries to allow one to live in their country. To this end, a contract was written and implemented under the Geneva Convention, under which countries were responsible for refugees. In the meantime, Turkmenistan, as a party to this convention, has obligations to refugees. However, some people in this country also seek asylum in other countries, such as the United States, Germany, Canada, etc.

Critical points about Turkmen citizenship

This country’s citizenship has a lower validity compared to the European countries. Therefore, you must check the immigration and citizenship conditions of other countries. Besides, given this country’s vague laws, it is not possible to say with certainty whether you can obtain Turkmenistan’s residency and citizenship. Another point to note is that Turkmenistan does not accept dual citizenship, and a person can receive citizenship if one gets a Turkmen passport. You will often receive a Turkmen citizenship for five years if you apply.
