Admission requirements for studying medicine in Dominica
Students who want to apply for Dominica medical admission can apply three times a year in January, May, and September. In this regard, the Admissions Committee will notify the applicant within 2 to 6 weeks from the time of application. The documents required to apply for admission are as follows.

- Submit an article (at least one page) and state your reason for studying medicine
- Official transcripts of high school and college education records
- Provide two letters of recommendation

Medical universities in Dominica
Since 2009, three Dominica International Universities have been working to improve the quality of education by strengthening medical courses and training at these universities. The three central universities of Dominica are the following.
- Ross Medical University
In 1978, ROSS Medical University was founded in Portsmouth, considering that it is an economic zone. Medical students and enthusiasts at ROSS University can apply three times a year. ROSS University offers medical programs for four years, after which ROSS students can go to the United States for graduate study and spend the fifth year there. They can also take undergoing clinical internships in US hospitals.
- All Saints University
All Saints University is temporarily located in the Dominican capital. However, most students can study in the Grand Bay area south of the island. This university was founded in 2006. The students and residents of the United States and Europe will receive 50% of the scholarship from the total university tuition. This university is well-known among the Medical Board of Dominica and the Commonwealth of Independent States (NCFMEA). Like ROSS University, it offers medical education programs in 4 years.
- University of The West Indies – UWI
It is not a medical school but a well-known and reputable university founded in the Caribbean. The UWI is typically run as a self-governing institute with UWI support in 16 English-speaking countries.
Medical study expenses in Dominica
International students studying in Dominica must pay 1,000 dollars at the time of application. Besides, international students must pay 100 dollars per semester for their health insurance. In the meantime, the responsibility of paying the international student’s living expenses is on them.

Universidad Odontologica Dominicana was founded in 1983 in this country. This university is an advanced educational institution in the large city of Santo Domingo. This university is known as a credible university by the Ministry of Advanced Education, Science, and Technology of the Dominican Republic. Therefore, there is no restriction for international students to study at this university. However, this university’s admission policy and its rate of admission vary according to education, degree, student citizenship, and other criteria. The global rating of this university is 12,452.
- Study nursing in Dominica
All Dominican universities offer nursing programs in 4-year (8 semesters) and 3-year (6 semesters) undergraduate programs. The applicants must have a diploma with good grades in mathematics, English, chemistry, and biology. Students can receive their degrees by completing their studies in nursing and after passing all clinical courses in their field.
Students who have completed the 2-year nursing courses can enter the bachelor’s degree program and continue their education from the second year. They can finally receive their bachelor’s degree after graduation. Also, students who have received their bachelor’s degree in basic sciences can participate in 3-year nursing courses and receive their degree.
Study medicine in Dominica and get a visa
The applicants must apply for a visa before entering Dominica. According to Dominican law, non-native students must obtain a visa, have a valid passport, and a return ticket to their country of origin. However, Dominica does not have an international airport, and students must enter this country by connecting to Puerto Rico, Antigua, and St. Martin.
