Georgian citizenship and the ways to obtain the citizenship of Georgian

There are some ways to obtain the citizenship of Georgia. It is possible to apply for Georgian citizenship through work, education, investment, marriage and birth. But each of these methods has special circumstances. In the following of this article, we will check each of the above methods.

Georgia citizenship through work

In this method, individuals must receive a job offer and a work letter from a company in this country, and the financial manager will conclude an employment contract between the employer and the applicant and determines the amount of salary for the person. This contract should be signed by the employer and after that the applicant will receive this job offer and then will enter this country to sign an employment contract with his/her employer, then he/she returns to his/her country and will get a one-year long-term visa. This one-year residence permit can be extended from year to year if the job position is maintained by the applicant. After residing in the country for 5 years, the applicants can apply for a permanent residence permit and after 6 years, which means in the seventh year, they can apply for the citizenship and passport of Georgia.

One of the most important thing about getting a residence permit through work in Georgia is knowing the unemployment rate in this country. The unemployment rate in 2018 was about 12 percent.

Georgian citizenship through education

Individuals cannot get a residence permit and citizenship in Georgia just by studying in this country. After graduating from different educational levels, these people can convert their study residence permits into work residence permits if they find a job or invest. Students have up to 1 year after graduation to find a job related to their field of study, and if they cannot find any jobs, their residence permit will be revoked and they will be required to return to their country. This type of residence permit is also renewed annually if the applicant pays taxes to this country. In the fifth year, people can apply for permanent residence permit, and in the seventh year, they can apply for the citizenship and passport in Georgia. Georgian citizenship through investment

People who want to get a residence permit and the citizenship of Georgia through investment can achieve this goal through two methods of buying property and registering a company. In order to buy a property in Georgia you need to have a capital of about $ 35,000, this amount is suitable for buying a house. In this method, people first get a one-year residence permit and can extend it for up to 5 years, then they can get a permanent residence permit in Georgia, and after the end of the 6th year, they can obtain the citizenship of Georgia. In the company registration method, individuals must have a capital of $ 300,000 in their company account in this country, and this account must have an annual turnover of about $ 120,000, in order to be able to operate in the trade market and economy of this country. Applicants must be present in this country and pay taxes in order to be able to extend their residence permits annually, so that they can get a permanent residence permit and get the citizenship and passport of Georgia in the seventh year. The most important thing in this regard is paying attention to the standards and security of investment in Georgia.

Georgian citizenship through birth

Obtaining the citizenship of Georgia through the birth of a child is such that the country has chosen the right of blood (Jus sanguinis) as the main route, but has chosen the right of soil (Jus soli) as a secondary route, which is the same as in other European countries, and if the child doesn’t have the of blood, the right of soil will be chosen for him/her. Therefore, if a child is born to a Georgian father who was born anywhere in the world after 1960, the child will be considered a citizen of Georgia. Also, a child born in Georgia to a Georgian mother whose father is unknown or stateless may be granted a Georgian citizenship and a residence permit in order to prevent the child from becoming stateless. In this case, the child will be granted the citizenship under less difficult circumstances, and in the first year, if the child’s parents are known, they can apply for their child’s citizenship and passport. If the parents are unknown, the government will decide about the citizenship and when to issue the passport. The important point about getting the citizenship is that if the child has parents, the parents must be formally married in order for the child to be granted a citizenship.

Georgian citizenship through marriage

In the method of getting a residence permit through marriage, Georgia is subject to the laws of the Schengen Union. This way, marriage in the first step does not lead to getting a permanent residence permit, and for getting a permanent residence permit you need to maintain the basic conditions of your marriage and you need the approval of the government.

Providing a house for the couple to live in is also one of the necessities that must be prepared and determined at the time of marriage. In order to marry formally, a person will be introduced as the marriage commissioner by the municipality. If the spouses have not been married before and are under the age of 21, before the issuance of the marriage certificate the permission of the father, in case of death, the permission of the mother and in case of the death of both, the permission of the legal guardianship of the person should be given to the marriage commissioner. Couples can apply for marriage through the marriage commissioner who was introduced by the municipality at one of the registered churches and register their marriage. The list of churches that are registered by the Ministry of the Interior or municipalities is available. Couples must have a valid passport.

Couples must also provide evidences and documents to prove that they are single, these documents must be obtained from their own country, which must include legal documents of divorce or death of spouse, and all documents must be approved by the relevant authorities of the country.

The law of getting a residence permit through marriage does not apply to asylum seekers.

A person can apply for Georgian citizenship at last one year after marrying to a Georgian person, but he/she must prove that the marriage was not a fake one, so the best way is not to apply for Georgian citizenship in less than 3 years and apply for it in the third year.

Georgian citizenship for asylum seeker

This is one of the most dangerous and worst ways to obtain citizenship. It is important to note that the United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) does not accept asylum applications, and asylum seekers in this country will be controlled by the Refugee Agency under the supervision of the IDP Refugee Agency. Therefore, it is recommended for people to question their social status, personality and dignity by applying for asylum in this country and instead in order to get a residence permit and citizenship they can apply through legal immigration methods for the best countries in the world and the best European countries. The salary which is determined and set for asylum seekers in Georgia is about 80 lari per month (each lari equals about $ 2.25), which can only provide a few meals of the refugees. Also, camps and accommodations are very inappropriate, unhygienic and remote and are provided to people with the least facilities.

Georgian citizenship and important points about Georgia passport

About the Georgian passport, as mentioned, it has an average rank in the world and has a weak reputation compared to the top European countries, so people instead of choosing this country for migrating, getting a residence permit and obtaining Citizenship, can choose a suitable country that has a valid passport to migrate to. Georgia is a Eurasian country and can never rank as one of the top European countries such as Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands and so on.
